Small Town Living
I recently moved from Berkeley to Livermore after getting a job here. According to the US Census, that’s a population downgrade from a city of 102,000 to 83,000. That doesn’t come close to capturing how much different it is. This is the smallest-feeling place I’ve ever been. It’s easy to find solitude when you want it. All the places you’d want to hang out are within about 6 blocks of each other. It’s not actually THAT far from the cities, but it makes you feel like a bridge & tunnel kid when you go to Oakland or San Francisco.
It’s probably just another manifestation of my premature fogey-ness, but I’m really enjoying it here. I found the dive bar of my dreams in town tonight. All friendly older folks who just want to hang out, laugh, and play the juke box. I can deal with that.
Additionally, Livermore people go like this and Berkeley people are more like this. I’ve got a bright future in stand up, I know.
