Honestly, I think Frum’s blowing smoke here. The Democrats have been dealing this bill down since June because a few Republican lawmakers made bipartisan googly-eyes at them. We lost a public option to the Democratic party’s (and the Village on the Potomac in general)’s fetish for “bipartisanship.” Hopefully the Democrats and the administration learned from this bill to prioritize policy over some phony Passion Play of Compromise.
